6% left on my battery and no power cord in site so I’ll be brief.  The workshop didn’t get into tactics or execution details but it gave me and the team members a great insight into the product owner role.  The biggest statement that stuck with me was that early on Jeff mentioned that it is impossible for one person to fill the ‘product owner’ role.   Sure there is ‘one’ product owner, but that person needs to be supported by a team and not locked in room to figure it all out themselves.

My takeaways:

- mapping user stories to a ‘narritive’ or timeline to help understand the product and how users use it
- how to build a better product backlog and plan releases

A good chunk of our team is headed to this workshop hosted by Declan Whelan and Jeff Patton tomorrow.  While the workshop is targeted at the product owner or customer, I think it’s great that a couple of our developers decided to sign up as well.

When I took my CSM training, we didn’t get to the optional model of User Stories, but we briefly talked about them in other modules which did help me figure out a few of the things what we were doing wrong.  I think this is a great opportunity for our team as our product owner, myself and a couple of our product developers are attending.

Should be a lot of fun and I plan on twittering from the event.  Stay tuned for a followup.
